Sophie's Luau

The plan for Sophie's birthday party was a luau in the backyard - throw out some pineapple, some tiki masks, the kiddie pool and the water table and call it a day. But it started raining and raining and raining the night before. So after some swearing, we decided to move the party inside - fine, we'll decorate inside and let the kids play down in the play room. Well, it kept raining and raining. When we went downstairs in the morning, we realized that it had flooded and while nothing was really ruined, the carpet was soaked so the basement was off limits too. So we ended up with about a dozen kids and their parents and baby siblings all on our main floor. Luckily, we had some surf boards for the kids to paint and Grandma Yoj saved the day with the idea of doing indoor kiddie olympics which the kids LOVED! (Sophie still asks to play "lympics games".) So it worked out but it was a lot more stressful than we were expecting.
