We spent the night in the ER the other night because our sweet, mellow toddler decided to put a blueberry up her nose. It was right before bed and she was having a snack. I noticed her picking at her nose, sneezing and her eyes were watering. I asked her if she actually did put a blueberry up her nose. Her response, "Yep!", with a smile. Oh blerg! I called my mom and the pediatrician and they both agreed - this couldn't wait so we were off to the ER. Sophie thought it was the coolest adventure she had ever been on. She was ecstatic!! She loves the doctor and remembers the hospital from when mommy was there with Clara so she couldn't wait. The whole drive in she was chattering about how she was going to see the doctor and he was going to listen to her heart and her elbow and it was dark out and we were in the new car and all sorts of funny things. We definitely did not want to encourage this nose-stuffing behavior so we were trying to scare her in the car - what kind of parents do that?? And then once we got there, it was better than she expected - toys and fish and coloring books and cartoons (Dora!) and other kids. Turns out the hospital is a magical place if you aren't actually miserably sick. We were obviously the lowest priority there and it was super busy so we didn't get seen until after 11:00pm. And once the doctor took a look, she could find no sign of the blueberry. None. They told us we would need to see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist the next day to get it out and sent us on our way. By this time, of course, Sophie had stopped sneezing and picking and watering so she seemed fine enough. And when we got home (way after midnight), what did Nate find on the stairs? A super slimy blueberry that had obviously fallen out as we were hustling out the door. What a waste!

Fun times for you. Tanner once stuck an air soft pellet up each nostril. We took him to instacare and got them out pain free. Hopefully Sophie learned not to do it again. Tanner hasn't since. Thankfully. Why kids think thats cool I don't know.
