Clara at Ten Months

You are talking! It's official! You say "da-dee" (Daddy), "Dar-zeee" (Darcy), and "book" for sure. Possibly "kitty", "doggie" and we're pretty sure you said "Sophie" one time. 

You are trying so hard to crawl! When you are on your bum, you lean forward and reach and reach and reach for whatever and almost get up on all fours, but your little right leg is determined to stay under you. You can get around a little though - you bounce, vigorously, on your little bum and can move an inch or two at a time. It's not efficient, but it eventually gets you where you are going. If you are on your stomach, you can push yourself backwards which isn't that helpful to you at all. 
1. You can pull up! You've really only been successful in your crib and only if I put you in the right position but you can do it! You try on other things - the rocking chair, toys, the couch - but so far no luck. 
2. You are funny about us trying to stand you up though. If we lift you up from the floor or try to set you down against something - anytime we try to put you vertical - your little legs stay straight out in front of you like you are still sitting. It's so funny! This may be part of why you aren't huge at walking while holding our hands. You haven't totally gotten that you should move your feet. To the extent that you have, it's itty bitty steps while your body is leaning into our legs. Not super convenient, but cute. 
3. You still don't have any teeth. None! That hasn't stopped you from being a champion eater though. You'll eat anything and everything we give you. However, it has become a bit of a wrestling match to get you to nurse. 
4. You play "Soooo Big" with us. You raise your arms up over your head and then clap your hands every time. And you want us to clap too. 
5. You love to play with pens and try to draw anytime you get one in your hand. You know exactly how it's supposed to work. You have already done a couple masterpieces - amazing!
6. You get how clothes work. Whenever I take off your pants/socks/barrette, you'll pick it up and try to get it back where it belongs. You'll take your sock and hit it on your foot or try to set your barrette on your head. 
7. You are starting to have favorite books. This Halloween one makes you giggle. You love any book with animals. You know to clap like a seal and possibly thump your chest like a gorilla like in From Head to Toe. And you have a love/hate relationship with this Elmo book. You love Elmo and love this story until the last page when a big Elmo pops up. You jump every time and you try to close the book quickly!
8. Here are some of your favorite things: You love to stand at the windows and pound on the glass or play with the latches. You love carpet fuzz - I have to watch you like a hawk when you are on the floor because it goes right in your mouth. You love to play with my earrings whenever I wear them. And if I turn my head so that you can't get them, you push my cheek so that I'll turn my head. You think it is the best game ever. You love dancing to "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. And you think it's the funniest thing ever when we roll your little fish-car off the stairs - it makes you laugh your head off to see it bouncing down the steps. Sophie knows this and wants to play with it all the time because "it will make Clara laugh!"
