The Land of Zion

We got back from another Salt Lake trip a couple weeks ago. This was by far the best trip we've had in a long time. It was so much fun! The girls were well behaved. Everyone slept well. Nate was driving his parents CRV back and he made it safely and in really good time. Sophie and Clara had a blast with all their cousins. We were there 11 days and Sophie knew that. When we got on the plane to leave Sophie asked, "Mom, can we stay in Chicago for 11 days and then come back to Salt Lake?" So the girls clearly loved their time there too.
(This is a really picture heavy post and it barely puts a dent in all the cute pictures we took.
If you want to see the rest, click here.)
I hope the neighbors didn't mind my daughter climbing on their duck.
Clara loved the piano.
Sophie remembered that the last time we were in SLC, she made a cake with Grandpa. It was one of the first things she wanted to do when we got there.
We spent one morning at Sugarhouse Park, feeding the ducks and playing Strawberry Shortcake.
Hazel and Sophie took literally 0 seconds to become BFFs.
Maddie and Sophie were the same.
They even got Nate to dance around with them.
Little Chickee-poo at the Children's Museum.
Jumping around at Jump Around. She still asks to go back there. By name. How does she remember that?!?!
Tangled came out on DVD while we were there. This may be the biggest thing that has ever happened to Sophie. It deserved a celebration so we took over the Hendersons' house and threw a princess party with all the cousins.
We spent one morning at the zoo... well, we tried to see the animals. We pretty much played at the playground there, ate sweets and visited the elephants (which Sophie also remembered from our last visit).
The girls spent an inordinate amount of time giggle at the trumpeting elephant statue.
We were lucky enough to hit Red Butte Gardens on April 1st, the only day of the year when the Marshmallow Tree "blooms".
It's a good thing it was too early in the year for the drinking fountains to be turned on because Clara loved getting up close and personal with this frog.
Can you stand how cute Owen is? Look at that smile! And those cheeks!
Sophie and Maddie and the moose. You know.
Maddie was so sweet with Clara - she was totally taking care of her and playing with her and showing her around. It was so cute!

Grandpa really tickled the grandkids by letting them "help" him do some gardening. It escalated quite quickly and soon feet were buried, towers were made and dirt was eaten.
See? Gross.
Grandma Yoj put on a little Easter celebration with dyed eggs and an egg hunt in the backyard.
My girls took it very seriously.
They also played around on the stumps and the little hideaway in her backyard.
Snuggling with Grandma.
And then of course it snowed the last day we were there. Grandma made it super fun building snow castles and ice birthday cakes.

But the biggest surprise of the whole trip was Miss Sophie. Holy cow! I don't even know who she is anymore! You guys - she went down this slide at Jump Around all by herself. Without any prompting or even an example - she was the first kid down. She was jumping and playing and running around. There was no warming up or hesitance or shyness at all. And she kept it up the whole trip - it was awesome!
She willingly climbed out on this rock with me.
And she begged to go on this merry go round. She has never ridden one of these rides. Ever. The closest she ever comes is holding Clara's hand and walking in circles while Clara rides around. It was unbelievable and I was so incredibly proud of her!
