Saugatuck, MI

Happy Easter! I'll let Sophie tell you where we spent the Easter weekend:

Yep, Saugatuck, MI, a little town about 3 hours away on the other side of Lake Michigan. It was awesome to get away for a few days. Saugatuck was small and charming but it was clear that the prime time to go was not April. A lot of the things to do were still closed for the winter, all the nature was still brown and bare and it was still pretty cold. It didn't matter to us because we could see it's potential. And, really, all Sophie wanted to do was swim in the hotel pool anyway. And I mean that's ALL she wanted to do. We went 3 or 4 times a day. Every time she woke up, we got in the car, we changed her diaper or anything else, she would ask to go swimming. It was adorable to hear her say "swimming?" while doing her sign for it. And we gave in almost every time:

She absolutely loved the pool. She thought it was really funny to drink the water and say "yummy". She would play "Humpty Dumpty" and jump from the edge. And she even wanted a little independence and kept asking to sit down on the steps so we wouldn't have to hold her. I'm pretty sure that if we weren't holding onto her so tight in deeper waters, she would have taken off then too. And we completely lost the battle any time she saw her floating duck. She even had a blast playing with this thing in the hotel room (despite the look on her face - she was mad because I made her wait so I could get the camera).

We tried to go to the beach a couple times but it was frickin' freezing and really windy. It was a bust but I'm sure it would've been gorgeous in the summer.

We found a little children's museum one morning that was cute. Nothing special to me or to Nate, but Sophie had a good time:

And we tried to spend some time at a couple of different parks. That didn't last long because of the weather but we tried...

And last but not least, we celebrated Easter there. The Easter Bunny found us even in a hotel room. We put Sophie in her Easter dress and hid eggs throughout the room. She understood hunting for them but was not interested in putting them in her basket - she wanted the M&Ms NOW! She got some fun little toys in her basket and then it was off to swim again!

It was a wonderful trip and Sophie was pretty easy even though she had strep throat (that we only caught because she kept telling me her ears hurt so I took her to the doctor the day before we left - otherwise she wasn't acting sick at all). She did pretty well in the car there and back. She slept about half the time and was willing to play in her carseat the rest of the time provided we made one stop each direction for ice cream at "Donals" (McDonald's). She even slept really well in her loaner crib. She was, however, very happy to be back in her crib at home - when Nate laid her down last night she said "Ahhhhh!". So it's good to be home but it was a blast!
