Ten Things We Love About You

Sophie,

You are a month old today. We have survived the hard part, and the rest should be a breeze (yeah right). We love everything about you, even the insane, irrational screaming that occasionally punctuates an otherwise blissfully quiet summer evening.

Here are ten things that we particularly have come to love about you over the past month:

10. When you wake up, your hands seem to attack your head and you stretch every muscle in your body, especially the muscles in your face. You look exactly like Dad feels when he wakes up in the morning.

9. After you eat a big meal, you have a tendency to fall asleep on Mom's chest. We sometimes worry that you can't really breathe with your face smashed into her cleavage, but you seem totally at peace.

8. You get a look of utter and complete contentment on your face when we change your diaper after a really big BM, especially if we let you kick around naked for a few minutes. (Does this mean you will grow up to be very popular with the boys?)

7. You look totally drunk after you finish eating. Are you ok to drive, honey?
6. You do "turtle face" when you are starting to get hungry. It's hard to explain, but just picture a very hungry turtle.

5. Sometimes you sleep with your arms raised over your head like you are being arrested and we can only swaddle you from the waist down.

4. When Dad does the "curl" (right hand under your butt, left hand across your chest and hooked under your right arm), you instantly turn to jelly, no matter how upset you are.
3. You love baths. You don't freak out at all, and don't even seem to mind when you get water in your eyes... also, you don't seem at all self conscious about being naked in front of our book group.
2. We know you are our baby, because you have Mom's twisted little pinky toe, and Dad's bizarre gap between your big two and your first toe. It turns out that Mom was joking about the mailman after all.

1. I know we shouldn't love this, but you have an adorable little whimper when you've cried so hard that you lose your voice.

Sorry to be sappy, but you are one perfect little angel (except when you are not).

Love,
Mom and Dad
