Snowmaggedon 2011

In case you hadn't heard, we had a bit of a blizzard yesterday. With snowthunder! You've never even heard of that before, have you? It was the 3rd highest snowfall in Chicago history, that's all. Chump change. It was a little crazy and a lot of fun. Well, fun for me and the girls - Nate spent 4 1/2 hours out there shoveling. There was actually a great sense of community about the whole thing. Nate started the morning with about a dozen other guys, digging out the cop who lives across the alley. Then we invited our neighbors, Izzy and Nora, over to play - since we were all stranded on the same street together, we decided we might as well make a party of it. And pretty much everyone on the street worked together to get the sidewalks cleared, even for the people who were out of town. It made me feel so lucky to live where we live, with the neighbors we have.
We didn't take the girls outside until today, but they both loved it. They decided that balls of snow were babies for some reason and got a kick out of smashing them... should I be concerned? We only played for a few minutes today but we'll have lots more chances - this much snow isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
